DigiCampus currently supports two types of H5P activities: The H5P tool integrated in the Moodle core, and the separate H5P – Interactive Content plugin.
The H5P – Interactive Content plugin will be gradually phased out. Courses will need to transition to using the H5P tool included in Moodle core.
Use of the H5P – Interactive Content activity will continue until December 2025. After that date, new H5P content can only be added through the Content bank. Existing content created with the separate plugin will still work and can be edited, but it will no longer be possible to create new H5P – Interactive Content activities.
The H5P – Interactive Content plugin will be removed from DigiCampus in the May 2026 platform update. After the plugin is removed, all materials created with it will also become unavailable.
You can recognize the H5P activities by their distinct icons. The H5P tool that will remain in use is named H5P. Its icon features the H5P logo on a gray background. The retiring plugin is named H5P – Interactive Content by default. Its icon shows the H5P logo on a black background.
The following instructions will help you convert activities created with the H5P – Interactive Content activity into a format compatible with the H5P editor/tool.
1. Converting interactive content into a file
Open the H5P – Interactive Content activity you want to edit. Below the content, click the Reuse button.
If the Reuse button is not visible, first open the H5P activity settings. Under Display options, make sure to check the boxes for: Display action bar and frame and Allow download. Then scroll down and click Save and return to course to apply the changes.
Click the Reuse button on the H5P activity. This will open the Download content dialog.
Then click Download as an .h5p file. The file will be saved to your computer in your browser’s default download folder (typically Downloads).
2. Uploading the downloaded H5P file to the Content bank
Return to the course main page and click More (under the course name), then select Content bank.
In the Content bank, click Upload. You can either: drag and drop the H5P file you downloaded into the upload area, or use the file picker: click Choose file → Upload a file → Choose file, then select the H5P file from your computer.
After adding the file, click Save changes to upload it to the Content bank. If needed, you can edit the H5P activity directly within the Content bank after uploading.
3. Selecting content from the Content bank for an H5P activity
Return to the course main page and navigate to the section where you want to add the activity. Click Add an activity or resource, then select H5P as the activity type.
Give the activity a name, and under H5P file, choose the file from the Content bank. To do this, click the Add button next to the file selector and browse for the correct H5P file in the Content bank.
In the file picker that opens, click Content bank, then select the desired H5P file. A Select ...h5p window will appear—click Select this file to confirm your choice.
After adding the file, configure the rest of the H5P activity settings as needed, then save your changes.
Once the activity is added, verify that the H5P content works correctly from the student’s view.
