What is being planned?
DigiCampus is expanding the use of course progress tracking, completion monitoring, and reporting. Implementing these features requires actions from course creators. The content, structure, and settings of courses should be designed to support these key areas. Some courses are already properly set up, but many still require refinement.
Why are these being developed?
The goal is to make learning smoother and clearer for everyone.
For students: A clear view of their own progress, improved time management, and greater motivation to complete the course.
For teachers: An easy way to track student progress, identify challenges early, and provide support as needed.
For administrators: Valuable data on course completions, course development, and student progress.
The aim is to make learning more systematic, efficient, and results-oriented for all parties involved.
What do I need to do as a course creator?
The course should include the following:
Conditions for activity completion in activities
Completion Progress block enabled
Clearly defined course completion requirements
Currently, these features should already be considered in MOOC courses that adhere to the defined quality criteria (link to Quality Criteria for MOOC Courses: https://dc-help.digicampus.fi/en/support/solutions/articles/101000528052-quality-criteria-for-mooc-courses), but they are highly recommended for other courses as well.
Conditions for activity completion in activities:
When you add an activity or resource to the course, you will find Activity completion in the settings. Define the conditions under which the activity is marked as completed in the Completion Progress block. Conditions vary depending on the type of activity or resource.
Completion Progress block:
The Completion Progress block can be added when the course is in editing mode (Add block → Completion Progress).
In this block:
Students can see their own course progress.
Teachers can view participant progress by selecting "Overview of students".
The block displays only those activities and resources that have Activity completion conditions defined in their settings.
Course completion requirements:
Define the conditions under which the entire course is considered complete.
On the course homepage, select the More menu and from the dropdown, choose Course Completion.
The simplest setup could be:
If only one condition is defined (Activity Completion), in the General section you can leave the default setting: "Course is completed when ALL conditions are met."
Condition: Under Activity Completion, select the desired activities that grant course completion.
If you have set access restrictions (e.g., blocking access to a final exam until prior activities are completed), you can simply choose the exam as the completion condition.
Don’t forget to save your selections at the bottom of the page.
Guidance and support

DigiCampus also offers a recorded training session from last autumn, which thoroughly explains how to use completion progress and course completion conditions:
https://digicampus.fi/mod/resource/view.php?id=353566 (Note: training available only in Finnish)
Additionally, a live Teams training session will be held on May 15, 2025, from 14:30 to 15:30, covering the definition of course completion conditions. Time is reserved at the end of the session for participant questions. The session will be held in Finnish but you may ask questions in English.
